Late July, the Brandywine Center held its fourth annual Block Party, and once again, it was a tremendous success! More than 500 children and their families came out for an afternoon of free food and entertainment, children's activities, seed planting, face painting, healthy cooking, dental and medical screenings, raffle prizes, and much more.
Seven recipients were honored with "Un-Sung Hero" awards, for their significant contributions to building health and wellness in our community: Barbara Friling, RN, Rainbow School Nurse, 25 years; Claudia L. Jones, Healthy Start advocate, 15 years; Carl Smith, CASD Teacher & Track Coach, 34 years; Maria D. Ortiz, Maternal Child Health Consortium educator, 16 years; Chamise Taylor, Principal Scott Middle School, Health Council, Mentor, Athlete 20, years; Mark Washabaugh, Family Therapist began Human Services in Coatesville, 25 years and Geraldine Weathers, RN Community Health Advocate ~ life work. Their reflections and visions on building health and wellness in Coatesville inspired the crowd. Stay tuned for the date of next year's fifth annual Block Party.
